Retelling Stories Through Arts: Celebrating Black History Month

Join us in commemorating Black History month, a vibrant event that illuminates the enduring resilience and contributions of Black/African pioneers throughout history. This celebration transcends traditional narratives, empowering young individuals to narrate these stories in a manner that resonates deeply with their understanding and personal identity as Black or African descendants.

Through drama, music, and art, children convey poignant themes including poetry, renaissance, slavery abolition, and the rich tapestry of Black entrepreneurial spirit.

Don't miss this enriching experience! Stay tuned for our Special Guest announcement, as we come together to honor, celebrate, and learn from the indomitable spirit of our ancestors. Venue details to follow. For collaboration or partnership inquiries, please reach out: Contact Africentric Arts.

Sierra Leone 57th Independence Celebration

In partnership with the Concern Citizens and Friends of Sierra Leone we created a jam-packed, fun-filled day to celebrate Sierra Leone’s 57th independence.

This event was an epitome of the many ways children can learn about a country's rich history and be involved in cultural activities in a fun environment. The children enjoyed jumping in the jumping castle, doing arts and crafts, and many other activities. The older kids enjoyed taking charge by doing face painting on the little kids and facilitating bowling and ring toss games. We gave out prizes to kids who won games and answered questions about Sierra Leone. Basically, They were all winners.

A special thanks to all the generous donors and volunteers that contributed to the success of this event. Your selfless giving was the reason why over 30 children had an unforgettable day.

2017 Summer Camp

Africentric Kids Summer Camp 2017 was an exciting event for us all. Many thanks to all our campers, friends, volunteers, parents, and the Sierra Leonean community.

We had children whose lineage are from Congo, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Trinidad,  and Jamaica. Some are fluent in other languages like French, Krio, and patois locally "partwah." Our campers learned arts & crafts, dancing, gardening, story-telling, and African history.

Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison a prolific multidisciplinary artist from Ghana also taught basic drumming. Our children gained confidence and performed drumming and dancing at a fundraising events for the devastating mudslide crisis in Sierra Leone.
